Abstract

Although the hippocampus has long been recognized to be essential for memory, the network computations that support different types of hippocampus-dependent memory remain poorly defined. Neuronal activity patterns that have been proposed to be necessary for memory include network oscillations, prospective firing, and ensemble reactivation. We have been asking whether these processes are required for particular phases of memory and whether particular hippocampal subregions support these functions. In particular, I will present our recent and ongoing work on identifying hippocampal computations that support working memory.
