Abstract
Most brain functions rely on constant interaction between specialized brain areas. Synchronized oscillations in distinct frequency bands route feedforward (ff) and feedback (fb) signals across hierarchically organized visual areas in primates, but the underlying circuit mechanisms are still unknown. Preliminary data from our lab, as well as a large open-source dataset point to similar spectral segregation in the mouse visual system.
In this talk I will be introducing my PhD project which is focused on deciphering the mechanisms of inter-areal interactions across ff and fb pathways. To better understand the mechanistic basis of coherent oscillations between different visual cortical areas, we are combining multi-areal extracellular recordings using novel high-density Neuropixels probes with optogenetic manipulation of specific-neuronal subtypes in awake, head-fixed mice.
